Restoration of an ancient week

An antique piece of furniture has always had its charm.
Inlaid, decorated or poppy a wooden cabinet can be ruined over time.
This furniture is one of our examples of restoration.
Here you will find the description of the following passages carried out by us.

As from first photos, the furniture arrived in the laboratory in these conditions. First, the furniture is recognized for its era and for its style, as well as all the material that composes it. This will allow you to understand if an antiques or conservative restoration must be performed. Thanks to this information, you can understand what the exact restorative context is. (1)

Subsequently, all the additional parts of the furniture were removed, in this way as to have a better perspective of the operations that must be made. The parties were removed, the state of conservation and the estimate is assessed, then, the week will be cleaned both internally and externally. (2)

At this phase all worn/damaged parts/out of context of the furniture are removed, including the damaged patina, with the help of effective products, always respecting the surface layer of the wood without damaging it, proceeding with the removal and prevention of the woodworms, with adequate treatment through the use of cutting -edge techniques and products.

In the final phase, all the structural works that include: carpentry shop, replacement of veneers (where needed) and restoration/cleaning of bronze details are finished. The original patina is returned to the mobile, which is divided into various stages, that is. The first is the one that aims to close the wood pores that have previously been open with the sanding, using pumice stone powder. Then various layers of shellac and straw oil are spread, interspersed with drying times, all with the aim of creating a patina that protects the wood. As a last phase, the finishing with high percentages of alcohol and shellac is carried out which aims to homogenize the previously given patina which allows the furniture to have the characteristic shellac patina.
